About the club
A radio club starting from scratch, in Salisbury
The Salisbury & District Amateur Radio Society held its first meeting on 6 September 2026. That makes us new — new enough that a good deal of what the club becomes has not been decided yet, and early enough that anyone joining now gets a say in it.
What we are aiming at is not complicated. A room in Salisbury where people who like radio can meet. A net on the air for the weeks in between. Proper training for anyone who wants a licence of their own. Between us we have decades of experience and none at all, and both turn out to be useful.
Come to a meeting before you decide anything. Bring nothing, ask whatever you like, and see whether we are your sort of people.

What goes on
Monthly meetings
A talk, a bench night, or somebody’s project spread across two tables. Tea, biscuits, and people who will happily explain the same thing twice.
Weekly nets
On-air meetings run by a net controller, open to members and non-members alike. The gentlest possible place to make your first contact.
Getting started
You do the free online course and sit the exam at home. We do the rest: which radio to buy, getting it programmed, an aerial that fits your garden, and somebody sitting next to you the first time you transmit.

Three hours at Castle Hill, an end-fed slung low between two poles, and a callsign that had never been on the air before.
There is a particular silence after you call CQ with a callsign that has never been transmitted. You have said it, it has gone out, and for a second or two you have no idea whether a single person in the country…
